Dr. Harry H. Beno - September 11, 1931-January 15, 2010

Harry H. Beno, age 78, died on January 15, 2010 in Buffalo General Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He lived in Pendleton, NY. He was a resident of North Tonawanda for 33 years. Born on September 11, 1931 in Sharpsville, PA. He was the son of the late Paul and Anna Beno. His sole and younger sister, Rosemarie (Mrs. Hall Groat) is deceased.He was a 1949 graduate of Sharpsville High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Thiel College, Greenville, PA, in 1954. He was in the US Army CIC for two years after which he attended Syracuse University where he earned his Master's and Doctorate degrees. Prior to his retirement from the North Tonawanda School District as superintendent, he served as a teacher in Cazenovia, NY, as junior high school principal in Liverpool, NY, as school superintendent in Mayville, NY and in East Rochester, NY. After his retirement as NT school superintendent, he taught graduate education administration courses at Buffalo State for 13 years. He is a member of First Trinity Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls Blvd., Tonawanda, NY. While living in North Tonawanda he was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church for 33 years. During that time he served as Sunday School teacher and as member of the St. Matthew Board of Christian Education. He was a church elder, a choir member, and a church council member. He served as an interim school principal at St. Matthew's Christian Day School on two occasions. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Ruth Benson Beno of 55 years; a daughter, Lisa (Brian) Stringer of Warren, OH; and a son, Matthew Beno of Buffalo. He has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. No prior visitation, a memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at First Trinity Lutheran Church, 1570 Niagara Falls Blvd., in the Town of Tonawanda.
